The La Jolla Learning Foundation is a non-profit public benefit corporation formed to provide support to families of children with learning disabilities for the purpose of allowing the children to acquire specialized education at the primary and secondary school level which would prepare the child for further education, employment, and independent living.
Parents Advocating Together (PAT) is a parent group operating under the La Jolla Learning Foundation. Our purpose is to work with parents of children with disabilities to help them understand their protected rights and procedural safeguards that are offered under IDEA 2004. We teach and offer the tools necessary to support parents to be prepared for IEP’s, and due process. Our desire is to empower parents to advocate for their child’s education.
What is Parents Advocating Together?
PAT is a parent group that offers support to parents of children with special needs (pre-school thru High School) in San Diego County.
PAT provides information, educational and emotional support to parents as they navigate to better understand their children’s rights under IDEA 2004.
PAT believes that by teaching and providing information to parents, we can empower them to gain life-long skills and knowledge so they can become equal partners in their child’s education.

PAT was founded upon the urgent need in San Diego for no-cost support to parents of children with special needs.
PAT believes that a parent-to-parent approach is necessary to allow us to continue assisting parents in our community by providing support and educational training to empower parents with a working knowledge to seek services and support for their child’s unique needs.

Our purpose is to help ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided an education that meets a child’s unique needs and prepares the child for further education, employment, and independent living. Our second purpose is to protect the rights of both children with disabilities and their parents.
PAT is a parent group that is a non-profit corporation helping parents of children with special needs. It is our policy not to recommend or endorse any one specific diagnostic or therapeutic program. We do not engage in legal advocacy but can refer parents to local low cost or pro bono attorneys and other professionals.
