Accommodations
Changes in how a test is administered that do not substantially alter the test measures; May include changes to how the test is presented, test setting, and time.
Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990(ADA)
Enacted by legislation to prohibit discrimination based on ones disability.
ADD/ADHD
A child may be eligible for special education services under other health impairment, specific learning disability, and emotionally disturbance if their ADD/ADHD adversely affect their education performance.
Autism
A developmental disability that affects communication and social interactions.
Behavior Intervention Plan
A plan of positive interventions in the child’s IEP in which their behaviors interfere with their ability to learn or the ability of others in class to learn.
FAPE
Free Appropriate Public Education. Every individual with exceptional needs who is eligible to receive special education instruction and related service shall receive that instruction and those services at no cost to his or her parents.
IDEA
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004
IEE
Independent Educational Evaluation.
IEP
Individualized Education Program An individualized education program, that is developed, reviewed, and revised for each child with a disability.
IFSP
Individual Family Service Plan Individualized family service plan for children with disabilities under the age of 3.
LEA
Local Education Agency or School District
LRE
Least Restrictive Environment A legal requirement to educate children with disabilities in general education settings with children who are not disable to the maximum extent possible.

OT
Occupational Therapy Is a related service: includes therapy to remediate fine motor skills, gross motor skills, and sensory related difficulties.
PT
Physical Therapy Is a related service: includes therapy to remediate gross motor skills.
SEA
State Department of Education ( California Department of Education (CDE)
Section 504
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act protects individuals with disabilities from discrimination due to their disabilities.
SLD
Specific Learning Disability; A disability category under IDEA; which means a disorder in 1 or more of the basic psychological processes involved in understanding or in using language, spoken or written, which the disorder may manifest itself in the imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or do mathematical calculations.
